Cisco aironet 1100 installation instructions

After the access point reboots, try the upgrade again. Note If you use the CLI to disable access point features, remember to save the configuration to Flash before rebooting.

Cisco recommends that you use auto , the default setting, for both the speed and duplex settings on the access point Ethernet port. When your access point receives inline power from a switch, any change in the speed or duplex settings that resets the Ethernet link reboots the access point.

If the switch port to which the access point is connected is not set to auto , you can change the access point port to half or full to correct a duplex mismatch and the Ethernet link is not reset.

However, if you change from half or full back to auto , the link is reset and, if your access point receives inline power from a switch, the access point reboots. Note The speed and duplex settings on the access point Ethernet port must match the Ethernet settings on the port to which the access point is connected. If you change the settings on the port to which the access point is connected, change the settings on the access point Ethernet port to match.

When you upgrade access point or bridge system software by entering the archive download-sw command on the CLI, you must use the force-reload option. If the access point or bridge does not reload the flash after the upgrade, the pages in the web-browser interface might not reflect the upgrade.

This example shows how to upgrade system software successfully using the archive download-sw command:. The MAC address for the access point Ethernet port is printed on the label on the back of the access point. When a client device roams from an access point such as access point alpha to another access point access point bravo , a message appears in the event log on access point alpha stating that the client roamed to access point bravo.

If you enter If you enter 0. Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that do not run IOS software series access points and and series access points that have not been converted to run IOS software. Repeater access points do not support WDS.

You cannot configure a repeater access point as a WDS access point, and if a root access point becomes a repeater in fallback mode, it cannot provide WDS. The link test feature on the web-browser interface does not support non-Cisco Aironet client devices nor Cisco Aironet A system software upgrade sometimes fails when you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.

During client authentication, the access point sometimes receives a corrupt EAP packet and displays this error message:. Other voice clients have not been tested with CCKM and are not supported. Some non-Cisco Aironet client adapters do not perform This setting must match the setting on the clients. Options: Throughput, Range, Default, Custom. Default : Default. Retains default radio settings that are designed to provide good range and throughput.

By default, the access point uses Cisco Aironet Disabling Aironet Extensions disables the features mentioned above, but it sometimes improves the ability of non-Cisco client devices to associate to the access point.

After you assign basic settings to your access point, you must configure security settings to prevent unauthorized access to your network. Because it is a radio device, the access point can communicate beyond the physical boundaries of your work site.

Just as you use the Express Setup page to assign basic settings, you can use the Express Security page to create unique SSIDs and assign one of four security types to them. This illustration shows the Express Security page. When the access point configuration is set to factory defaults, the first SSID that you create by using the Express Security page overwrites the default SSID, which has no security settings. You can create up to 16 SSIDs on the access point.

Without VLANs, encryption settings WEP and ciphers apply to an interface, such as the radio, and you cannot use more than one encryption setting on an interface. Because the Express Security page is designed for simple configuration of basic security, the options available are a subset of the access point security capabilities.

Keep these limitations in mind when using the Express Security page:. However, you can delete SSIDs and re-create them. The SSIDs that you create are enabled on all radio interfaces. The Express Setup screen sections and configurable settings are identified and briefly described below. The SSID is a unique identifier that clients use to associate with the access point. The SSID helps client devices distinguish between multiple wireless networks in the same vicinity.

The SSID can be any alphanumeric, case-sensitive entry from 2 to 32 characters. Note These characters are not allowed:? In addition, these characters cannot be the first character:!

A VLAN is a switched network that is logically segmented by functions, project teams, or applications rather than on a physical or geographical basis. This setting identifies the security settings available on the Express Security Setup page.

Default: No Security. The least secure option. More secure than no security. However, static WEP keys are vulnerable to attack. Cisco access points use hexadecimal characters. Client adapters may use either, depending on how the vendor chooses to configure them. Enables Requires an IP address and shared secret from an authentication server on your network server authentication port You do not need to enter a WEP key.

Wi-Fi Protected Access WPA permits wireless access to users authenticated against a database through the services of an authentication server, and encrypts their IP traffic with stronger algorithms than those used in WEP. As with EAP authentication, you must enter the IP address and shared secret for an authentication server on your network server authentication port If you followed the instructions in previous sections of this guide, you should have had no trouble getting your access point installed and running.

If you do experience difficulty, the following sections provide basic troubleshooting information. You can use the LED colors to assess the unit status. Refer to the "How to Open the Top Cover" section.

Mismatched basic settings are the most common causes of lost connectivity with wireless clients. If the access point does not communicate with client devices, check the following areas. Wireless clients attempting to associate with the access point must use the same SSID as the access point.

The WEP keys that you use to transmit data must be set up exactly the same on your access point and any wireless devices with which it associates. For example, if you set WEP Key 3 on your client adapter to and select it as the transmit key, you must also set the same value for WEP Key 3 on the access point. However, the access point does not need to use WEP Key 3 as the transmit key.

If a wireless client cannot authenticate with your access point, contact the system administrator for proper security settings in the client adapter and for the client adapter driver and firmware versions that are compatible with the access point settings. If you forget your password that allows you to configure the access point, you may need to completely reset the configuration.

You can use the MODE button on the access point to reset the configuration. Follow these steps to delete the current configuration and return all access point settings to the factory defaults by using the MODE button:. Open the access point cover refer to the "How to Open the Top Cover" section on page 2. Disconnect power from the access point the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power. Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.

Then release the button. After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure it using the web browser interface, the Telnet interface, or the access point console port.

Follow these steps to delete the current configuration and return all access point settings to factory defaults using the web browser interface:. Open your Internet browser. You must use Microsoft Explorer version 5. Enter the access point IP address in the browser address line, and press Enter.

An Enter Network Password screen appears. Enter the username Cisco in the User Name field. Enter the password Cisco in the Password field and press Enter. Click System Software. The System Software screen appears. Click System Configuration. The System Configuration screen appears. Click the Reset to Defaults button. After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure it.

If you install the access point or bridge in an environmental air space such as above a suspended ceiling, check national and local safety codes to make sure that the Ethernet cable you connect to the unit meets applicable standards. Release notes for these products are on Cisco. Browse to the following page:. Note The AC power adapter for either model power injector is not suitable for operation in a building's environmental airspace and should not be installed in these environments.

When installing the power injector media converter into a building's environmental air space, the power supply pigtail option must be used. Note The maximum distance that is supported for in-line power is ft. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet Port on the access point. Plug the fiber-optic network cable to the port on the media converter labeled Base Fx To Network.

Plug the other end of the cable to the fiber-optic source. Connect a suitable VDC power source, such as the power pack that shipped with your access point or the power supply pigtail option, to the power receptacle labeled DC48V. Secure the VDC power cord in the retaining clips on the power injector as shown in the following illustration:. Secure the media converter by mounting it to a vertical or horizontal surface using the supplied tie wrap mounting kit or using the keyhole mounting holes on the back of the unit.

When power is applied to the power injector media converter, the Power LED glows green. When a device is discovered, the Status LED glows green continuously. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet Port on the access point or bridge. When power is applied, the Power LED glows green.

If the power injector is not connected to a device capable of receiving inline power, or if it is connected incorrectly, the Power LED glows amber continuously.

Secure the power injector by mounting it to a vertical or horizontal surface using the supplied tie wrap mounting kit or using the keyhole mounting holes on the back of the unit. You can mount both models to most vertical or horizontal surfaces using the supplied tie wrap mounting kit.

If you need a more secure mounting method, you can also use the mounting keyholes on the bottom of the unit.

Follow these steps to mount the power injector with the supplied tie wrap mounting kit. It may be helpful to refer to the illustration on page Mark the position on the surface where you want to mount the power injector. To mount the power injector using the wall anchor and screw, follow the steps below. If you are using the plastic mounting bracket, go to Step 3. Install the 10 wall anchor in the hole.
