People and things there are all more ominous and sinister than they should be. Creepy versions of playing cards, bugs, and baby dolls are some of the enemies you'll face throughout your adventure. My chief complaint is that these strong concepts are not used as well as they could be. Perhaps Disney was aiming for a younger audience and decided not to make the puzzles too complex, but when you have the pieces to assemble a clever platformer like Braid or PB Winterbottom, you really should go for it. Alice's sloppy controls do not help much either. Instead of using a virtual pad, you use a pair of left-right arrows at the bottom of the screen to move Alice.
An up arrow makes her jump. Everything just feels mushy, so it's occasionally difficult to make precise movements. I've killed Alice a number of times by making a jump at just the wrong half-second, sending her into the drink. The Return of Ace received mixed reviews from critics. PlayStation Magazine noted the game was visually appealing, noting the game had a lot of vibrant backgrounds and smooth character models, but criticised the gameplay for being too repetitive, and also noted the short length of the game, which could be beaten in just a few hours.
